Resumen : | Type II diabetes mellitus represents one of the most prevalent chronic diseases in the elderly population, characterized by an alteration in glucose metabolism that leads to multiple complications and where it is not adequately controlled. My research addresses nursing care focused on older adults with this pathology called type II diabetes mellitus, highlighting the importance of a comprehensive approach that considers the physiological, psychological, and social characteristics of aging. What we do is make an intervention based on health education, glycemic monitoring, the safe administration of medications in case the patient receives insulin treatment, the promotion of self-care and the prevention of complications, through a bibliographic review where the search was obtained through 20 databases such as Scielo, Pubmed, Elsevier, WHO, MAIS, PMH, among others, where the fundamental role of nursing staff in improving the quality of life of these patients and in reducing the risks associated with the disease is highlighted, we conclude that continuous, empathetic and patient-centered nursing care contributes significantly to the effective management of type II diabetes in older adults. Keywords: diabetes, mellitus, intervention, patients, older adults. |
