Abstract

Social Security Retirement is a government program that provides financial benefits to people who have reached a certain age and met certain contribution requirements. These benefits may include a monthly pension, medical care, and other social services. Social security retirement systems in Latin America originated in the early 20th century, in response to the need to protect workers from poverty in old age. The first systems were based on a pay-as-you-go model, in which the contributions of active workers were used to finance the pensions of retirees.
