La extradición como herramienta para la disminución del crimen organizado en el Ecuador.

Abstract

This research analyzes extradition as a legal tool for reducing organized crime in Ecuador, within a context of rising violence and transnational criminal activity. Through a legal, doctrinal, and practical approach, the study examines the national and international legal frameworks, the fundamental principles of extradition law, and the administrative and judicial procedures involved in its implementation.

The effectiveness of extradition in dismantling criminal organizations is assessed, with a focus on emblematic cases that have set legal precedents in Ecuador. Structural challenges such as the prison crisis, institutional corruption, and the limitations of international treaties are also discussed. Additionally, the research emphasizes the need to strengthen international cooperation and to update Ecuadorian legislation to address the evolving challenges of transnational crime. It recommends implementing comprehensive public policies that incorporate not only extradition, but also prevention, education, and prison reform. When applied in a coordinated manner and with respect for human rights, extradition can serve as an effective tool to protect national security and promote international justice.
