Abstract

Professional Skills and Ethics of the Social Worker with Families Benefiting from Social Programs of MIES in the Manta Canton, 2024-2025. Skills are the actions performed by professionals to ensure proper intervention, integrating ethical principles aimed at promoting social justice. The purpose of this research was to identify the various existing social programs, to recognize the professional skills involved, and to understand how ethics are incorporated into interventions with beneficiary families, as well as the professionals with whom the social worker collaborates. A qualitative methodological design was used, applying interviews as a technique with the social worker and the family support technician. As a result, the different programs offered by MIES were presented. It was identified that the skills most frequently practiced by the social worker are soft skills, such as assertive communication, active listening, observation, adaptability, and sensitivity. In addition, the ethical principles guiding their intervention were recognized, including the promotion of autonomy, social justice, respect, confidentiality, and empathy towards beneficiary families. The main professional the social worker collaborates with is the family support technician. Recommendations include strengthening the dissemination of MIES social programs, keeping the social registry updated, and promoting training spaces to improve the professional skills and ethics of social workers. It is also recommended to continuously reinforce collaboration between the family support technician and the social worker.
