Abstract

It addresses crucial issues for the elderly population of the Jaramijó canton, the active role, balance and co-responsibility of the family in caring for the elderly, family co-responsibility refers to the fair distribution of tasks and responsibilities among all family members, thus overcoming those traditional schemes where a single person was in charge of carrying out the care, who usually carried out these tasks were women, this phenomenon directly affects the physical, emotional and social well-being of older adults. The situation and problems of families are very particular and therefore qualitative methodology offers a more comprehensive way of addressing it, as a technique to collect the information, the in-depth interview was used through which key informants were selected from families, gerontological center workers and older adults users of the service, to carry out a correct systematization, thematic categorization, triangulation and inductive-deductive analysis were used, but it has me to identify those structural barriers and perceptions that could be found regarding shared care. Finally, this work is divided into four chapters. The first chapter presents the problem, objectives, and justification. The second chapter presents the theoretical framework, developing relevant theories of aging, caregiving, and family co-responsibility. The third chapter details the methodological design and data collection and analysis techniques. Finally, the fourth chapter analyzes the results, presenting testimonies, reflections, conclusions, and recommendations for improving family co-responsibility.
