Abstract

Pediatric patients are in a stage of constant growth and development, which makes them vulnerable to the development of both facial and oral malformations; In this case we are talking about the malocclusion given by the presence of the tongue thrusting habit in pediatric patients. The objective of this research project was to review tongue thrust as a habit that promotes malocclusion in pediatric patients; being an analytical type project, documentary bibliographic design, transversal non-experimental. So, although the habit of tongue thrusting is not the only one, but it is one of the causes of malocclusion alterations since there is interference in the bad tongue position, a number of bad formations are generated at the oral-dentofacial level. Among the most common characteristics we find, open bite, malformation of the hard palate, protrusion and dental extrusion, likewise one of the most used orthodontic elements for treatment is a Hawley retainer with grid and pearl in the upper arch and a fixed retainer upper and lower.
