Abstract

In summary, the present study focused on the speech therapy approach to oromotor disorders, highlighting the importance of the intervention of speech therapy professionals in the detection and management of these disorders. Different types of oromotor disorders, their underlying causes were identified, and the methodologies currently used in the treatment of these disorders were analyzed. The bibliographic review carried out allowed us to collect relevant and updated information, providing a comprehensive understanding of the speech therapy approach in oromotor disorders. Oromotor disorders affect facial muscles and motor functions, such as chewing and breathing, due to causes such as malformations, inappropriate habits, and muscle dysfunctions. Treatment requires a multidisciplinary approach that includes myofunctional therapy, orthodontics, surgery, and the crucial involvement of a speech pathologist. Early intervention is key to preventing long-term complications.
