Abstract

The cold storage facilities in the Las Cumbres neighborhood of Manta face significant challenges related to their economic sustainability. This study identifies the main economic factors that influence their performance, employing a quantitative and descriptive approach based on surveys conducted with the owners. The results reveal that rising operational costs, fluctuations in input prices, frequent power outages, and increasing insecurity are the most critical elements affecting their stability. Despite these adversities, the owners have implemented measures to ensure operational continuity, such as investing in energy-efficient refrigeration equipment and using voltage regulators. However, these strategies are insufficient to counteract structural issues related to profitability and competitiveness in the sector, putting their long-term viability at risk. To address these limitations, a strategic plan is proposed, focusing on the adoption of advanced refrigeration technologies, product diversification, resource management optimization, and improved operational security. These actions aim not only to ensure the sustainability of the cold storage facilities but also to strengthen the local economy by generating employment and promoting sustainable practices. In summary, overcoming economic challenges through innovative and sustainable solutions is essential to solidify the role of cold storage facilities as key players in the economic and social development of the Las Cumbres neighborhood.
