Abstract

Artisanal bottom spinner fishing in Manta, Ecuador, is a selective and sustainable activity that takes advantage of the diversity of demersal species present in the region, this study aims to analyze the dynamics and biological characterization of this fishing technique and its relationship with the Catch Per Unit Effort (CPUE), to identify the factors that influence catches and propose management and conservation strategies. Using an experimental design, biweekly samples were taken during 2023, collecting data on the length, weight and composition of the species caught. The results highlight a predominance of Diplectrum labarum (71% of the catches) and a strong influence of seasonality on CPUE, correlated with environmental factors such as water temperature. Based on the results, we conclude the need to implement adaptive management strategies that include seasonal catch limits and continuous monitoring, ensuring the sustainability of fishery resources and the protection of the marine ecosystem.
