Dinámica reproductiva de la anguila, gymnothorax equatorialis capturada en el pacífico ecuatoriano: implicaciones para la gestión y conservación.

Abstract

The present study examines the reproductive dynamics of the eel Gymnothorax equatorialis in the Ecuadorian Pacific, based on data collected between March and July 2024. A total of 150 specimens (83 females and 67 males) were analyzed, recording length, weight, sex, gonadal maturity, and other biometric parameters. The mean capture size was estimated at 55.87±6.32 cm in total length (Lt) for combined sexes, with a sex ratio of 1.24F:1M (χ²=1.72; p>0.05). A positive correlation between length and weight was observed, estimating isometric growth. The gonadosomatic index showed seasonal fluctuations, suggesting changes in the reproductive condition of G. equatorialis. The size at sexual maturity (L50) was estimated at 48.93 cm Lt for combined sexes. The condition factor remained relatively stable during the study period, indicating the species' good ability to maintain its condition throughout the reproductive cycle.
