Resumen : | Dental caries is the result of a complex interaction of various biological and environmental processes. The social determinants of health are related to the influence of the conditions in which human beings develop and age, possibly causing health inequalities. Objective: To determine the relationship between social determinants and the prevalence of dental caries in children attending the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic in the ULEAM Dentistry Degree during the period 2024-1. Methodology: Descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study with a sample of 100 children who attended the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic in the ULEAM Dentistry Degree during the period 2024-1. Results: 42% of individuals felt satisfied with their teeth, 22% had visited the dentist twice in the last 12 months, 73% brushed their teeth once a day, and 77% consumed sugary drinks every day. The prevalence of caries in permanent teeth was 5% and the CPO index was 1.34 teeth. The prevalence of caries in primary teeth was 54% and the ceo index was 5.36 teeth. Conclusions: The social determinants that affect the oral health of children and adolescents are the lack of employment of their parents, difficulties in accessing health services, the lack of a culture of preventive dental visits, and the high consumption of sugary foods or products such as sweets and beverages. |
