Abstract

The present research had as its theme, the same one that presented as a general objective to analyze the potentiality and contribution of the cycle - tourism to the sustainable development of the Portoviejo canton, in order to satisfy the needs of tourists who have an affinity for caring for the environment This through its specific objectives, which consisted of defining the cycle - tourism as a tourist alternative, by identifying its benefits, in order to recognize its contribution to the sustainable development of the Portoviejo canton. The applied methodology was based on descriptive research, which supported the criteria through the bibliographic review of previous studies that were analyzed according to the results obtained in the survey applied to tourists in the Portoviejo canton. The findings obtained were that the tourist potential of the Portoviejo canton is recognized, however, it is not taken advantage of in a timely manner, therefore, sustainable development is not achieved in its three dimensions: social, economic and environmental; Due to this, the importance of further analyzing the subject of study is concluded and as a recommendation the application of the proposed strategies is proposed in order to stimulate and promote Cycle tourism, thus guaranteeing its contribution and positive impact on the sustainable development of the town.
