Vulneración de derechos y su incidencia en la calidad de vida de los adultos mayores del barrio Jesús del Gran Poder de la ciudad de Santo Domingo, años 2024-2025.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze how the violation of rights affects the quality of life of older adults in the Jesús del Gran Poder neighborhood, in the city of Santo Domingo, during the period 2024–2025. This issue is especially relevant in the current context, where population aging demands more effective legal, community, and social responses. Although the rights of older adults are recognized as a priority group by the Constitution of the Republic of Ecuador and various international regulations, this population continues to face multiple forms of exclusion, mistreatment, and even abandonment. The research methodology was qualitative, applying semi-structured interviews to professionals (a Social Worker, a Psychologist, and a Lawyer) as well as to five older adults from the community. Data analysis identified the main forms of rights violations, including the lack of adequate housing, social exclusion, limited access to health services, inefficiency of state protection systems, and shortcomings in the social registry. The quality of life of older adults is affected not only by material conditions but also by emotional, family, and community aspects. The lack of support, limited coverage of participation programs, scarce community socialization, and weak promotion of their rights tend to aggravate their vulnerability. On the other hand, participation in community socialization programs has been recognized as having a positive impact on their well-being.
