Desarrollo social y equidad de género en Manabí: perspectivas desde la comunidad lgbtiq+ de los cantones de Manabí, año 2024.

Abstract

This research project, entitled "Social Development and Gender Equity in Manabí: Perspectives from the LGBTIQ+ Community of the Cantons of Manabí, 2024," aims to understand the experiences of LGBTIQ+ people in relation to social development and gender equity in rural and semi-urban contexts in the province of Manabí. This project aims to understand their perceptions of social inclusion, access to basic services, community participation, security, employment, and quality of life, and to identify common and specific patterns in their life trajectories. This study was based on a qualitative approach, which allowed for the capture of meanings and experiences through the voices of the subjects themselves. Semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and photographic records were conducted with nine individuals from the LGBTIQ+ community, revealing negative outcomes where structural exclusion based on sexual orientation and gender identity persists. Positive outcomes were also revealed through the multiple expressions of resilience, support networks, and empowerment strategies that promote personal and collective development
