Abstract

This research is titled: "The role of the Educational Social Worker in the Prevention of Addictions to New Technologies at the Juan Montalvo Educational Unit in the city of Manta, year 2024 - 2025". The central purpose of this project was to understand how the educational social worker intervenes in the face of the growing problem of excessive and inappropriate use of digital technologies in first, second and third year high school students, this reality was approached from a qualitative approach, taking into account the direct experience of the professional in Social Work, the perception of teachers and students, this study allowed to identify that the uncontrolled use of electronic devices, such as cell phones, screens and social networks, generates obvious effects on academic performance, interpersonal relationships and the emotional well-being of students, since it was also shown that although preventive strategies such as workshops, talks and training activities are applied, there are important challenges such as the low participation of families, little institutional interest and low student receptivity. One of the most impactful contributions was the identification of socioemotional factors, such as family dysfunction and lack of home supervision, that increase vulnerability to developing technology addictions. This concludes that the role of the educational social worker is fundamental to promoting healthy habits, but requires greater coordination with the educational community and institutional strengthening to achieve more effective and sustainable interventions.
