Impacto del agroturismo en el desarrollo sostenible de las comunidades rurales, caso: El Carmen.

Abstract

Based on the stories, landscapes, and customs of the rural communities of Wilfrido Loor Moreira, San Pedro de Suma, and El Paraíso-La 14, in the canton of El Carmen, agritourism has begun to open up new possibilities for its people. With the support of surveys, tours, and direct conversations with residents, it was possible to learn firsthand how this activity helps drive the economy, create jobs, keep traditions alive, and protect the natural environment. However, it was also discovered that the benefits do not always reach everyone, that youth participation remains low, and that coordination between institutions is still limited. For this reason, the study proposes clear actions to strengthen agritourism, expand the experiences offered, and improve infrastructure, so that El Carmen can consolidate itself as a welcoming, participatory, and sustainable rural destination, capable of showcasing the best of its culture and people to those who visit.
