Abstract

The general objective of this study was to investigate the economic development of the rural area of the Manta canton based on the application of fair trade in artisanal fishing. The methodology included a theoretical review, surveys and interviews with local fishermen to evaluate the impact of fair trade on their economic and social conditions. HE They also used specific indicators to measure the participation of fishermen, infrastructure, diversification of production and sustainable tourism. The Survey results showed that fair trade has brought stability in prices and more equitable access to the market, benefiting fishermen. Without However, the interviews revealed significant challenges, such as lack of access to financing, institutional support and unfair competition from industrial fishing. Fishermen such as Don Luis García, Don Juan Pérez and Don Carlos Quintero highlighted the need for more training, improvements in infrastructure and basic services to promote sustainable economic development. The proposed schedule of activities included the establishment of alliances, the execution of training programs, improvements in infrastructure and the promotion of sustainable tourism, structured in phases quarterly to ensure effective implementation. The conclusions of the study indicate that, although fair trade has had a positive impact on the economy of artisanal fishermen, it is essential to address the aforementioned challenges to maximize the benefits. Greater investment is recommended in development programs, access to credit and improvements in community infrastructure to strengthen development economic and social in the rural area of ​​the Manta canton.
