Abstract

The present research work corresponds to a review and compilation of bibliography, oriented to the analysis of the role that nursing staff play in care of patients suffering from various disorders caused by substance use and abuse psychotropic. Psychotropic substances have been classified as compounds of natural origin or synthetic capable of causing changes in the Central Nervous System, since it modifies In mood, consciousness, thinking and behavior, in this group of Substances have been included legal and illicit drugs such as alcohol, painkillers, caffeine, nicotine, marijuana, heroin, cocaine, LSD, amphetamines, among others (Organization American Health Organization (PAHO), 2020). The use and abuse of psychotropic substances has, therefore, become a problem of public health, and the disorders that these practices cause (dependency disorders and poisoning) corresponds to important causes of premature mortality and disability. Data of the United Nations World Drug Report point out that By 2020, around 284 million people between the ages of 15 and 64 resorted to the consumption of any of these compounds, and it has been estimated that more than 13.6% has a related disorder (United Nations Office of Crime and Drugs, 2022; United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, 2022).
