This project analyzes Jorge Icaza's novel Huasipungo to understand the continuities between the feudal system described in the work and current labor exploitation. It was published in 1934. It narrates the life of Ecuadorian indigenous people subjected to conditions of servitude and abuse by landowners, who control the lands and resources, and also exercise their power through practices of extreme labor exploitation. The general objective of this study was a comparative analysis of the literary work and Feudalism in the current era. A qualitative-descriptive methodology was used; which included interviews with 40 students, 2 teachers from the Fiscal Educational Unit "Aníbal San Andrés Robledo" and 2 indigenous vendors in the city of Manta. The results indicate that only 12 students fully understood the term "huasipungo" and the feudal context of the work, while 20 students recognized in the novel the use of social realism as a representation of the time. 29 respondents also noted parallels with current labour issues, especially in terms of low wages and unfavourable conditions. Teachers, for their part, highlighted the value of Huasipungo in raising awareness about issues of social justice and human rights. In conclusion, it not only represents a social critique of the time, but also allows us to identify aspects of oppression that, although they have been adapted, persist today, especially in vulnerable labour sectors.es
