Abstract

This study aims to determine the application of professional ethics in the interventions of social workers in the educational field of the Manta canton in 2024. To do so, a quantitative approach was adopted with an exploratory and descriptive design, which allowed a first systematic approach to the object of study and the detailed characterization of the ethical practices of social workers. Deductive and documentary methods were used, applying structured surveys to a sample of 250 social workers graduated in the educational area. These surveys, made up of 12 questions, addressed issues related to norms, values, principles and ethical behaviors observed in their interventions. Among the results, it was evident that social workers apply professional ethics partially, being affected by the lack of updated regulations and the absence of continuous training in ethical aspects. However, good practices were identified in respect for confidentiality and the personalization of cases, although these are not applied uniformly. It was concluded that it is imperative to update the ethical codes and promote ongoing training in professional ethics to ensure a practice that is more consistent with the fundamental principles of the discipline. Likewise, the implementation of monitoring and ethical evaluation strategies would contribute to optimizing compliance with professional standards and strengthening confidence in the services offered by social workers. These measures would improve the impact of interventions in the educational community of Manta canton, ensuring a more ethical and professional approach for the benefit of students and their families.
