dc.description.abstractThe development of critical thinking is essential in students, since it directly affects their intellectual development. From this perspective, the objective of this research was to analyze the level of verbal reasoning in the development of critical thinking in tenth grade students of the Simón Bolívar Educational Unit. The methodology was developed based on the positivist and interpretive paradigm with a mixed qualitative and quantitative approach, the level of study used was descriptive, with a type of field research, in addition to using deductive, inductive and analytical-synthetic methods; The data collection techniques were the interview and the survey, which had the interview script and the questionnaire as instruments respectively, these were used to determine the level of verbal reasoning and critical thinking. To evaluate the level of verbal reasoning and critical thinking, an ad hoc rubric was used. Furthermore, in the information processing section, the analysis and interpretation of results was carried out, ending with the discussion of results. The results of the study led to affirming that the students did not master the components of verbal reasoning and did not master the cognitive skills of critical thinking, so it was deduced that the students, having a low level of verbal reasoning, could not develop criticality as much as possible. which will ultimately end up affecting their high school exit profile. It was suggested that the educational institution prioritize the development of verbal reasoning to improve the critical skills of students, in consideration of this they will train teachers to put greater emphasis on the development of verbal reasoning and thus be able to implement strategies to improve the criticality of their students. Also make known the results to the institution subject to investigation so that it can make pertinent changes in the supervision of the institutional project and integrate the themes to be developed during the school year based on the current National Educational Curriculum.es
