Estudio de adaptación de variedades de Ají en el cantón Pedernales: Ají limo; Capsicum chinense; Ají Escabeche; Capsicum baccatum2; Aji Cayena: Capsicum annuum; y Aji Serrano: Capsicum annum L.

Abstract

The present test was carried out in the Pedernales Manabí Canton, Ecuador, near the sea 500 meters from it, with the specific conditions of the coastal climate and silty loam soil with 42% Silt, 22% Clay, and 36% Sand, using irrigation. By Flood, the agronomic behavior of the four Aji varieties was evaluated: Ají limo; Capsicum chinense; Pickled Chili Pepper: Capsicum baccatum2; Cayenne pepper: Capsicum annuum; and Ají Serrano: Capsicum annuum L. Over 30 days, variables such as stem diameter, number of leaves, plant height, flowering and fruit production were measured. The results reflect significant differences between the varieties, determined using the Tukey test at 5%. The Aji Serrano was the most outstanding variety in stem diameter, this variety reached an average of 0.68 cm in the fourth week, a total of 50.72 leaves and a plant height of 42.84 cm, which indicates a superior vegetative development. It also showed an early and constant flowering, reaching 3.16 per plant in the fourth week, in production it achieved 23.25 fruits per plant, with an estimated yield of 18,304.40 kg/ha when extrapolating the data to a hectare scale. The Cayena variety stood out for its number of leaves, with an average of 58.69 leaves and a height of 34.54 cm. The Serrano chili excelled in flowering and fruit production, reaching 2.94 flowers and 22 fruits per plant. The escabeche chili showed a good initial performance with 9.75 fruits per plant, although in the end the production decreased to 5.25 fruits.
