Libertad de prensa en manta: un análisis de los desafíos legales y sociales que enfrentan los periodistas en medios digitales, año 2024.

Abstract

This research addresses the legal and social challenges faced by digital media journalists in Manta, in the context of press freedom, year 2024. The main objective is to analyze the barriers that limit their professional practice and explore strategies to guarantee their safety and ethical commitment. In addition, a qualitative methodology based on semi-structured interviews with local journalists was used, complemented by a bibliographic review of relevant legal regulations. The results show that digital journalists operate in an environment marked by constant threats, such as intimidation by high-powered figures, organized crime, self-censorship and the lack of institutional support, which fosters difficulty in the quality of information. Likewise, self-care strategies were identified, such as the use of cybersecurity tools, support networks, personal security protocols, although these are insufficient without adequate support from public policies. The research concludes that, although the Ecuadorian legal framework establishes principles to protect press freedom, its implementation has gaps that aggravate the risks for communicators. This work highlights the urgent need to strengthen regulations and promote concrete actions to guarantee a safe environment for journalism, contributing to the consolidation of a more just, informed and democratic society.
