El enfoque de género en el tratamiento informativo en los cibermedios. Un estudio comparado.

Abstract

The media have been considered as a fourth estate, so they have played an important role in the formation of thoughts and behaviors in society, however, their influence is marked by the subjectivity of editorial lines and journalists, who have often contributed to the sexualization of women by representing them as a weak figure. This study aims to analyze from a gender perspective the informative treatment applied by the cybermedia El Universo and El Comercio to news where women are victims of violence, through a review of 99 news items that have been published in the months of August and September 2024, 51 from the newspaper El Universo and 48 from El Comercio. The study is quantitative, considering the dimensions of the information treatment variable: frequency of publication, section where the information is published. The results revealed an absence of a gender approach in the coverage, evidencing the lack of specific sections and the predominance of content that is limited to reporting specific events from judicial or criminal perspectives.
