Resumen : Introduction:The "Self-Care Deficit Theory," developed by Dorothea E. Orem, is part of the theoretical frameworks within the field of nursing. Within the trend focused on substitution or assistance, the nurse's role is understood as performing those activities that the patient is unable to carry out on their own during certain stages of life—such as illness, childhood, or old age—thus promoting, to varying degrees, the development of self-care. This concept encourages the active involvement of individuals in maintaining their health by taking responsibility for decisions that directly impact their well-being, aligning with the objectives of health promotion. The aim of the study was to analyze the importance of self-care in patients diagnosed with Human Papillomavirus (HPV). It was necessary to theoretically support the study variables, determine the epidemiology in young patients diagnosed with the virus, and identify the causes that contribute to its development.Methodology:This research followed a documentary approach and applied the analytical, synthetic, inductive, deductive, and historical-logical methods. The study was based on a bibliographic design. The research was carried out in several stages, including the formulation of the scientific problem, the search for relevant information, definition of the topic, organization of the collected data, and its analysis. Inductive and deductive reasoning techniques were used to understand historical information and analyze the data obtained. Conclusion: HPV represents a significant public health challenge that requires specialized attention from healthcare personnel. Many women affected by the virus are unaware of the preventive measures that could help avoid complications related to the infection. Therefore, it is essential to establish HPV-focused care strategies that increase patient awareness about their health condition, promote self-care, and encourage adherence to medical treatment.
