Abstract

This research project focuses on conducting a study whose purpose is to identify how sustainable tourism activities contribute to the protection of the Machalilla National Park, located in the Puerto López canton, Manabí province. This topic currently has a lot of interest for destinations worldwide, as a result of these activities helping the economic growth of the territories and also significantly contributing to the control of the negative effects that can be caused. The methodological approach of the research is mixed; that is, quantitative-qualitative, the inductive-deductive method and the research and survey-interview techniques are applied. Of course, the survey questionnaires are applied to the tourists who visit this protected area and the interviews are addressed to the main tourist actors of this locality. The results to be negotiated will make it possible to infer that there are certain irregularities regarding the reporting of benefits, support for the community to reduce poverty rates and improve the quality of service, controlled use of natural resources and equitable distribution of profits. In this sense, the interviewees consider that sustainable tourism activities are in good condition. There are also aspects such as environmental pollution and lack of government support that do not contribute to the development of tourism in the Machalilla National Park. In the end, a proposal is designed which contains strategies such as promoting environmental awareness, proper management of tourism resources, strengthening the knowledge of service personnel and expanding the existing offer.
