Abstract

Currently, the status of women reflects significant advances in rights and representation; however, various limitations that affect their independence and well-being continue to be observed. The main objective of this research is to critically analyze the current status of women in Ecuadorian society in comparison to the representation of women in the play "The House of Bernarda Alba". Furthermore, a qualitative approach was employed in the methodology, based on a contextual analysis of the play at the comparative and interpretive levels. Furthermore, the research theory was hermeneutic. Critical and analytical analyses were used to analyze the results. Semi-structured interviews were also used for data collection. Therefore, themes such as oppression, sexuality, and violence were found within the narrative, which are important elements for understanding the contemporary situation of women in Ecuador. This research serves to reveal how certain mechanisms of manipulation and control, although they have diminished, continue to exist in today's society.
