Abstract

This research paper analyzes the effectiveness of technical English training programs for tour guides in Puerto López, a key ecotourism destination on the Ecuadorian coast. The study is based on the recognition that technical English proficiency is essential to improving service quality, enriching the international tourist experience, and strengthening the destination's competitiveness. A quantitative methodology is applied as the method. On this issue, here are severe gaps in the technical English of the guides. The biggest difficulties for them are specialized vocabulary, listening comprehension and reading written texts. Although nearly all guides have undergone training in this language, they have received sporadic training without reaching an acceptable level. The theoretical framework highlights the importance of technical English in the context of international tourism and the need to adapt training to the characteristics of destinations like Puerto López. In response to the identified challenges, the study proposes a series of innovative pedagogical strategies that include specialized courses, practical training in real-life contexts, the use of technological tools, and institutional agreements.
