Abstract

The present investigation collects the evaluation of the pedestrian spaces of the San Antonio neighborhood, in the Tarqui parish in the city of Manta. Said evaluation is carried out during the months of February and March of the year 2022, including the 13 blocks together with their sidewalks and intersections from 303rd Street to 309th Street in the north-south direction and 212nd Avenue to 219th Avenue in the east-direction West. The purpose of the research is to evaluate the physical condition of the sidewalks, that is, their dimensions, signage, urban equipment, adaptations for blind and visually impaired pedestrians, green areas, services, in addition to understanding the development of public civil works, private constructions, main economic activities and other important data in order to elucidate the passage of pedestrians through the streets and sidewalks of the neighborhood. The study reflects that there is a central corridor in the neighborhood which has a greater developed urban infrastructure, due to its growing economic activity, at a general level it is possible to infer that the sidewalks are in good condition and have only been used for a few years. built. The shortcomings found that mainly affect the sector are the lack of marking of zebra crossings, lack of sound signals for blind people, lack of ramps so that people with physical disabilities (who move in wheelchairs) can travel freely. It is expected with this study to create an awareness of urban planning that includes blind pedestrians and wheelchair users, as well as increasing basic furniture such as garbage cans, chairs, lithography to give the city a more orderly and clean appearance.
