Reading comprehension is an important skill that not only allows one to decode words, but also to interpret, analyze and reflect on what is read, which facilitates precise oral and written expression; without incurring in language vices that hinder adequate expression in the academic, social and professional environment. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the influence of reading comprehension in the reduction of language vices in second-year high school students of the “Umiña” Fiscal Educational Unit. The methodology used has a mixed descriptive, non-experimental approach that included surveys of 20 students and an interview with the Language and Literature teacher. Thus, the results reveal that a high percentage of students read sporadically (45% rarely and 40% occasionally), which affects their reading comprehension; since, 90% indicated having difficulties understanding texts. Likewise, 50% of students do not know what language vices are and their consequences on speech; However, despite this, 65% acknowledged that reading can help to correct these vices. In conclusion, it is confirmed that better reading comprehension has a positive impact on reducing language vices, but it is necessary to reinforce pedagogical strategies to promote regular reading and improve awareness of the proper use of speech.es
