Resumen : | The present study examines the characterization of bullying and its impact on the academic performance of students in the seventh year of Basic Education of the "José Ramón Zambrano Bravo" Educational Unit, located in El Carmen, Manabí, Ecuador. The research uses a mixed approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon. Surveys were conducted with 59 students and interviews with teaching and administrative staff to collect data on the prevalence, types and consequences of bullying. The results indicate a relatively low prevalence of bullying at the institution, although subtle ways that affect students' well-being and academic performance were identified. Verbal harassment and harassment related to economic factors emerged as the most common types. It was found that students with characteristics of shyness, low economic status or communication difficulties are more vulnerable to bullying. The study concludes that, although the existing preventive measures have been effective, it is necessary to strengthen the detection and reporting systems, as well as implement awareness and emotional education programs for the entire educational community. The present research contributes to the understanding of bullying in the specific context of the E.U. "José Ramón Zambrano Bravo" and provides recommendations to improve prevention and intervention strategies, promoting a safer educational environment conducive to learning. |
