Análisis de las tradiciones culturales de San Pedro perteneciente a Tabacundo, cantón Pedro Moncayo.

Abstract

Tradition and culture are fundamental within society, reflecting identity and fostering community cohesion. In the Pedro Moncayo canton, cultural expressions that have been passed down for decades still survive; however, the passage of time and social changes have led to the decline of certain customs, resulting in a lack of knowledge among the younger generations. In this context, this study investigates the ancestral traditions linked to the San Pedro festivities in the parish of Tabacundo, province of Pichincha. The mixed approach provides a greater understanding of the subject under investigation and the problem in an objective, accurate, and detailed manner. The results show the level of knowledge about ancestral traditions and how young people have lost this knowledge and are integrating new elements into the culture. In addition, the compilation of different sources of information helped in the development of this work. It was possible to document the traditions of San Pedro de Tabacundo and establish the level of knowledge that young people have, revealing a lack of knowledge and how they have modified certain criteria over time, such as the music, clothing, and cuisine of the locality. while the adult population preserves its roots by presenting symbolic value and cultural identity. Therefore, the study made it possible to identify and record traditional practices, as well as to recognize the gap.
