Abstract

The study of stories is being forgotten, as if there was no need to learn from them. In reality, the word is the most important for life; Older adults, with their way of communicating, provide that touch that is needed to attract the listener in order to deepen and disseminate the ancestral knowledge they represent. With the objective of knowing this knowledge, it is proposed to rescue the ancestral and cultural identity through the stories of the San Antonio site of the 24 de Mayo canton of the province of Manabí; collect the stories that are still heard and disseminate them by creating an book for future generations. The sample was made up of 30 people, including teachers, authorities of the educational institution in the sector, and public officials who provided the information in a timely manner. This research is qualitative because data was obtained from interviews, life stories and family gatherings. The results obtained from the research indicate that young people do not have particular interest in stories. Furthermore, migration has caused people to forget their roots. Despite the fact that the story is recognized as an important element to keep orality alive and the cultural identity of a people.
