Estudio de la barbarie moral en las catilinarias de Juan Montalvo.

Abstract

Juan Montalvo is considered a champion of justice, a staunch detractor of the tyrannies of his time, and a defender of the defenseless and illiterate people. His scathing critique of power structures and his commitment to social justice anticipate contemporary pedagogical and social theories. These ideas resonate with Paulo Freire, who stated that "education does not change the world: it changes the people who will change the world" (Pedagogy of the Oppressed, 1970). Freire saw education as a tool of emancipation, capable of transforming not only individuals but society as a whole. He promoted the development of education and strongly criticized the corruption and tyranny of his time. The hot iron of his indignation becomes words, and that is where Las Catilinarias are born, a compilation of 12 essays that denounce with a sharp pen the corruption, despotism and ignorance of the tyrannies of his time: José María Urbina, Gabriel García Moreno, Antonio Borrero Cortázar and, especially, Ignacio de Veintimilla, representatives of despotism during the second half of the 19th century in Ecuador.
